We have created an environment where health, safety & environmental rules and regulations are not merely complied with but are actually embraced by our people. We have worked together as a group to develop programs and directives which make sense.
Endless forms and documents do little to protect that which matters most. We started our programs at the most fundamental level; developing positive attitudes with regards to this matter. Once the transition had been made from viewing these processes as an encumbrance we were able to easily start to build practices around them, practices which everyone has a voice in creating.
All of our personnel not only hold certification in the standard WHMIS, TDG, H₂S, Confined Space and First Aid but additionally may obtain training in often overlooked items such as Fall Arrest, Fire Safety Awareness, Radiation Safety and Accident Investigation to name a few.
Lack of safety is not the case for the 11 Cenovus contractors recognized for their safety contributions at the company’s Brooks North operations. WAV Inspection Ltd. was one of the recipients of the Cenovus Safety Stewardship Award for leadership in health and safety and ethical business conduct. “Working with Cenovus means working safely and those we’ve recognized have gone above and beyond,” said Dave Mudie, Senior Vice-President, Conventional Oil & Natural Gas. “At Cenovus, safety is a core value and we operate according to a set of strong values promoting excellence in health and safety performance. We strive to find ways to get better, every day.”
Cenovus staff members nominate companies and a selection committee appointed by the Cenovus Operations Health & Safety team chooses winners. The selection committee looks for evidence that the contractor has demonstrated leadership by finding innovative ways to promote safety in the workplace, working collaboratively to integrate safety into the planning process, and placing a high personal value on safety. “The Cenovus Health and Safety Stewardship Award is just one way Cenovus shows our appreciation for a commitment to safety,” said Mudie.
“Cenovus puts a lot of emphasis on ensuring the work we do is done in a safe and responsible way, and when we have the opportunity to work with companies that share the same values, we can achieve great things.”
